A silver singing bird box by Karl Griesbaum, circa 1925-30, of rectangular for, cast in relief with Teniers subjects, the small oval lid opening to reveal a small feathered singing bird automaton, key compartment, with bird-shaped key, 10.1cm wide, together with the original guarantee from Spieluhrewelt Musicboxworld.

This model was among the most popular ones manufactured by Karl Griesbaum Singvogelwerkstätte (Karl Griesbaum singing bird workshop) in Triberg, circa 35 km north-east of Freiburg and some 60 km north of the Swiss border. The singing bird box in this lot is also included in Griesbaum's poster advertising the sixteen most popular types of Singvogeldosen in 1930 (see Geoffrey T. Mayson, Mechanical Singing-Bird Tabatières, London, 2000, p. 158, fig. 9.3, no. 3).
