Whilst we often see exceptional quality pieces by the more well known makers such as Cartier or Tiffany & Co, it is rarer to see pieces from the American Jewellery firm Marcus & Co which was based in New York City.
Best known for their Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces of unique design, such as this incredible diamond set metamorphic brooch, their jewellery attracted high profile clientele throughout the 20th century which included none other than John D Rockerfeller, which gives an indication of the level of prestige with which their jewellery was regarded.
The beautiful brooch is platinum, each starburst clip set with fifty diamonds including two baguette cut diamonds either side, with bow frame and pin, opening to become two separate clips, with a pre auction estimate of £1500-2500.
Jessica Wall our Director & Auctioneer shown here wearing the brooch found the piece in the garage of a local Peterborough home was delighted to inform the sellers of its fine quality and rarity, and we look forward to seeing what it achieves in our specialist Jewellery, Silver & Watch auction on the 27th April 2024.
The lot sold for £1,700 on 27th April 2024
